Running Game 2.0 (after the loss to the Panthers)

TL;DR Definitely not convinced, we need to do better. 100yrds is not enough.

Kenyan Drake had a break out run for 66yrds and a TD! That composed of exactly 66% of total rushing yards for the Dolphins. For those who are catching on, yes I am being sarcastic and yes we only had a total of 100 rushing yards. 17 attempts with an average of 5.9 yards per carry. That is just straight awful. Comparing it to our opponent, The Carolina Panthers, their QUARTERBACK... just wanted to emphasize on that, ran for 95 yards. Yeah, let that sink in for a second. Thier QB ran for just about as many yards as our whole team did in that game. They ended six bucks shy of 300 yards rushing.

Add their 250 from passing and you can see why they put up 45 points against us. Our passing game was decent but not the best. Comparing the two teams the Panthers are a little better on total yards and yards per pass but we were not too far behind on the numbers. So you can safely say we got beat on the ground. This, my dear Coach, is not reassuring. In fact, it is the opposite of that. It is very worrisome. If you haven't checked out my recent article on where I give the Dolphins a grade, check it out. If you can't be bothered, I gave them a D so far on the season. We started out decent but have been sliding downhill in the last few weeks and if something doesn't change, we will be at the bottom come week 17.

Where do we go from here? Well, I don't work for the dolphins so all I (and fans) can do is watch and see what they do. But as an opinionated fan, I do have a few suggestions. I will refrain from indulging in the "FIRE THIS GUY" or "BENCH THIS IDIOT" suggestions and strictly focus on gameplay.

  • We need to improve the ground game. 100 yards total in a game is not gonna cut it. I am not blaming Drake on this one. We need better blocking on the front line to give him the hole he needs to run it through. Look at the guys in the trenches.
  • Stop turning over the ball. Seriously. I'd rather you go 3 and Out then throw a deep ball into coverage and turn the ball over. Interceptions happen from time to time, fumbles can be avoided. Better ball handling leads to fewer turnovers. simple as that.
  • Defense, Defense, DEFENSE! All this talk about the Offense where our major problem is on Defense. They are allowing too many points. We need better tackling, better play reading, better Safety's, better Corner's. The defense as a whole needs to step up their game.
That's my two cents in. I'll see you guys next time.

Sincerely: Boricua Phin
